Every Day Heroes
One of the few great things about the Corona Virus has been the attention payed to all of the every day working folks. Not only the doctors, nurses and first responders on the front lines, but also the truck drivers, cooks and retail workers behind the scenes. These are the unsung heroes who keep America running. Without them, we would have no food, no toilet paper and no quality of life. Everything we take for granted on a daily basis is the direct result of hard working every day people.
The Blessings of Work
This is a picture of my friend Eric. We’ve known each other since we were four or five years old. He is a specialized plumber, who puts medical gas lines into hospitals. He is thankful to be working right now during the Corona Virus lockdown, because he can’t afford to pay his bills and take care of his family on unemployment. He is absolutely essential to society.
Eric is just one of millions of Americans who perform valuable services for society in exchange for a paycheck. But, the paycheck is only one of the blessings of having a job or a business. The service he provides, the taxes he pays and the money he spends are also vital for our economy. There is also a sense of accomplishment and contribution to others each person feels as they go about their daily business. It’s a balance of performance and reward that benefits everyone.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that the working class is the backbone of America. Their efforts and talents are the engine that powers our economy.
“There is a working class – strong and happy – among both rich and poor: there is an idle class – weak, wicked, and miserable – among both rich and poor.”
– John Ruskin
