Len,

As usual, your wisdom is a welcome sight.

Debt troubles usually are self-inflicted. And, they can often be corrected almost as easily as they occured. It just requires a comittment to becoming debt-free and the follow thorugh to make it happen. Most of this is under our control. And, it is very empowering to become victorious over debt.

I think one of the biggest problems is the psychology of debt and the hopeless feelings it can inflict on some people. This is compounded by thoughts of escape and the legal opportunities to do so. But, it is very disempowering to become defeated by debt or to seek obsolvency. I know someone who has declared bankruptcy three times and never learned her lesson. It's pretty sad.

I have seen that wall of debt and it does seem to get higher day by day. One of the things that helped me the most was to come up with a little plan. Then, I started to see the wall come down, instead of going up. It's kind of like losing weight. It's never going to happen until you pick an ideal wieght and start to weigh yourself every day.

"...action is worthless without commitment."

Absolutely, Bret.

The good news it that except in the case of a catastrophic accident, the unexpected life-threatening medical condition, or some other stroke of random bad luck, debt troubles are usually self-inflicted.

Best,

Len

Getting out of debt requires strong medicine. You not only have to spend less than you make you have to spend less than you make minus the interest. When you are in debt that wall gets higher day by day.
